Weekly Accomplishments
Being the first week of the program my biggest strides were mainly made in brainstorming and creating the website. My first and biggest accomplishment was getting my website set up. I'm happy with the color scheme and design I have. I'll be adding more as we get further in the program. My second accomplishment is handling the tech aspect of the program well. I am not from a tech background so I am happy with my success in handling some of the tech hiccups. The third accomplishment is coming up with several workable ideas for the project. While I won't finalize anything until I get my hands on our set of letters, I have some ideas I am happy with.
Roadblocks in my success
My first difficulty was not having access to our set of letters. While I know we will get access next week, thinking of topics without knowing the scope is somewhat difficult. My second roadblock was adjusting to the new schedule, while the first week has been appropriately relaxed, getting used to the new schedule and area is somewhat tiring. However I feel like I'm making fast progress to being fully adjusted. My final difficulty has been learning everyone's names. I am very bad with names so I know that it will take some time. I have most names down but I am still memorizing.
Things I've learned
I have learned a great deal in these few weeks especially because it is the first few days. Having my studies partially focused on reconstruction, getting to learn from someone who studies the era deeply is also a great opportunity. Learning the percentages of people who owned 5-10 slaves was a big surprise to me. I have definitely learned a lot of skills related to Wix as it is my first time using it. While I have learned plenty more the final thing I will note is learning more about the demographics of Canadas college educated population.
What's next
I am really looking forward to getting to see the letters on Monday so that I can finalize a topic.
